There are many modifiers that can be used for selecting features in ArcInfo. What follows is a list of those used on the Select menu and in the Ensemble Editor. Note that not all of these options are available from every menu.
- ONE specifies that a single feature will become the currently selected set.
- Press <1> or click <LeftMouseButton> to select an item.
- MANY specifies that more than one feature will be selected.
- Press <1> or click <LeftMouseButton> to add an item to the selected set.
- Press <9> or click <CTRL-RightMouseButton> to stop selecting.
- BOX selects features which fall within a specified rectangular box.
- Press <1> or click <LeftMouseButton> to define the corners of the box.
- POLYGON selects features which fall within the boundary of a specified polygon.
- Press <1> or click <LeftMouseButton> to define the vertices of the polygon.
- Press <9> or click <CTRL-RightMouseButton> when finished.
- SCREEN selects all features currently visible on the screen.
- PATH calculates the shortest path between two specified arcs and selects those arcs falling along the path. Available for arcs only.
- Press <1> or click <LeftMouseButton> to select the beginning and ending arcs of the path.
The BOX, POLYGON, and SCREEN modifiers can be further refined with the following options:
- WITHIN specifies that only those features that fall completely inside the selection area will be selected. This is the default.
- PASSTHRU specifies that features which are only partially contained within the selection area are also selected.
